Carbon monoxide alarms are required for Group R and Group I occupancies; new and existing construction.

ICC Codes Requiring Alarms

To view ICC 2012 codes requiring CO alarms, go to the ICC Codes Online and pull up code information desired. Chapter 9 reviews CO requirements in new construction. Chapter 11 states existing structure requirements for CO alarms.
