Child Care Facilities

The safety and health of the children you will care for is the main focus of Child Care Licensing. This is accomplished through enforcement of the Wyoming Department of Family Services Wyoming Child Care Licensing Rules.

Under Wyoming law, Child Care providers are required to have a yearly on site health and sanitation inspection of the Child Care establishment (in addition to the inspections conducted by the WY Department of Family Services). These health and sanitation inspections are performed by Environmental Health Specialists from the Teton County Health Department, in accordance with Chapter 8 of the DFS Licensing Rules.

Drinking Water Testing

All Child Care facilities on a private water supply must submit a water sample for bacteriological testing every six months. If infants under one year old are present, the water supply must also be tested for nitrates every three years.

ServSafe® Food Handler or Manager Course

As of January 1, 2015, all childcare facilities who handle food in any way, including opening and handling snacks and lunches, are required to have basic food safety education. Contact the Health Department if you are unsure about how to fulfill this requirement.
