Metal Cans
Includes: Metal Beverage Cans, Metal Bottle Caps and Lids, Metal Cans, Tin Containers
What to Recycle:
Aluminum and tin cans, food cans, lids, and clean metal containers.
Metal caps and lids are accepted—please remove them from jars and rinse before recycling.
Preparation Tips:
Empty and rinse all containers to remove food residue.
Sort into the appropriate bin: tin/steel is magnetic, aluminum is not.
Why it Matters:
Metals are highly recyclable and can be reused infinitely. Recycling metal saves significant energy and natural resources.
Drop-off locations:

Did you know?
Aluminum vs. Steel/Tin:
- You can tell whether a can is aluminum or steel/tin with a magnet. The magnet won't stick to aluminum cans, like soda cans, but it will stick to steel/tin cans, like many soup and food cans.
- Recycling metals is one of the easiest ways to save resources and protect the environment. The amount of energy saved differs by material, but almost all recycling processes achieve significant energy savings compared to virgin material production, according to the EPA.
- For example, recycling of aluminum cans saves 95 percent of the energy required to make the same amount of aluminum from virgin sources. For each can recycled, this is enough energy to run a television or computer for three hours.
